Daughter of Johan Frederick Theobald Bantjes and Gezina Hendrina Dina Mostert.
Gideon Jacobus was the owner of the farms Harmutspoort and Drie Koppen, situated on the Nuweveld Mountains in the Beaufort West district.
Gideon and Maria were both buried at Harmutspoort in a stone-built tomb.

g2. Jan Frederick Hendrik Mostert de Villiers x Annie Buys. They farmed on the farm Matjiesfontein, Beaufort West district. After their death, the son, Pieter Buys de Villiers, inherited the farm
Jan and Annie had 13 children. The youngest son David was a brilliant student (Stellenbosch and Oxford) and was a living Professor at the University of Pretoria.

g3. Jacobus Gideon Retief x with a maid Vivier. They farmed on the farm Modderdrift and also had a few houses in the town that he rented out. The farm was sold when their son Wynand went to live in the town.

g4. Gesiena Hendrika (Aunt Jessie) x with Edward Melville. Later with her daughter, Mrs Budd, in Sea Point.

Daughter of Matthias (or Mattheus) Calitz – originally probably Gallitz, in 1743 x Petronella van Eeden. Matthias Calitz came to the Cape from Rheinsburg, Germany in 1734. Hendrina’s parents were the ancestors of the Calitz family in South Africa.
Petronella’s ancestors were Jan Janse van Eeden who came to the Cape from Oldenburg in 1662. His wife was Maria Russar of Blois, France x on 13 July 1688. Their son Frederick *1694 x Hendrina Stevens, who came to the Cape with her parents from the Netherlands. Their daughter, Petronella was the wife of Calitz and their daughter Hendrina Cornelia x Jan Geert Bantjes.
Five children were born to the Calitz marriage. Mattheijs was their second child

Their daughter Catharina Dorothea x 1 December 1781 with Johan Frederich Hesse and after his death xx Matthys Christiaan Bantjes.
