van der Spuy and Zondagh
Compiled by Pieter HJ Krynauw, 1945, Antoinette van Reenen, née Krynauw, 1946 and Hubert Krynauw, 1955. Our mother, Antoinette van der Spuy (1920), was married to David W Krynauw, 1908 (Seventh generation Krynauw) and she was the third child of Herman Hubert van der Spuy (﹡1889), married to Antoinette Aletta Zondagh (﹡1891).
The Van der Spuy and Zondagh families in our family line moved from the Cape Colony via Stellenbosch, Swartland, Swellendam and Oudsthoorn to Uniondale/Langkloof. Our grandfather van der Spuy and grandmother Zondagh were married in 1912 at Uniondale. Herewith details of these ancestors:

1. Melt van der Spuy (1688–1734)
Melt van der Spuy (1688–1734) is the ancestor of the South African van der Spuy’s.
~4 April 1688, Rotterdam. The 8th of 12 children.
† 26 October 1734, buried in the cellar of the Groote Kerk, at the age of 46 years
Parents: Jacob van der Spuij and Crijntje van Leeuwen, Rotterdam, Holland
VOC Arrival in the Cape: 26 May 1708 with ship de Schellenberg
Occupation: Soldier.
In 1713 to Holland and returned to the Cape in 1713 with De Kiefhoeck as “adelborst”
Vryburger in 1715 and lieutenant of the cavalry. Enterprising businessman- wine sales
x Maria van der Poel (﹡ 7 February 1694 † 23 August 1770) x 14 June 1716, Cape. Daughter of Vryburger Pieter van der Poel (originally from Leiden in 1688) and Johanna Viant. The van der Poels were well-off with a farm on the Liesbeeck River and 6 houses

Church minister- Petrus was sent to the Netherlands at the age of 9 for education and training and was the first Afrikaner to qualify as a minister of the Cape Church 1746-1752. Later Drakenstein 1753-1781. He delivered the celebratory address at the first Centenary Celebration of the Cape
